If you’ve ever felt like talk therapy isn’t enough or simply doesn’t work, a somatic approach may provide some hope. With a somatic approach, we focus on the connection between the mind and body and pause to recognize that trauma, stress, and anxiety don’t just exist as thoughts, they live in the body as well.
What is a Somatic Approach?
Somatic therapy helps you slow down, tune into body signals, regulate your nervous system, and release stored tension. By integrating mindfulness, breathwork, movement, and other body-based techniques, somatic therapy allows you to process emotions safely and reconnect with yourself on a deeper level.
Who Can Benefit from Somatic Therapy?
Somatic approaches are especially effective for:
- Trauma survivors – Whether from childhood abuse experiences, intimate partner violence, or other significant life events, trauma often gets stored in the body. Somatic therapy helps process and release it safely.
- Anxious perfectionists – If you feel constantly on edge, overanalyze everything, or struggle to slow down, somatic work can help regulate your nervous system and bring more ease into your life.
- Highly independent individuals – For those who struggle to ask for help or be vulnerable, somatic therapy can provide a felt sense of safety and connection.
- Those feeling disconnected from themselves – If you feel numb, dissociated, or out of touch with your emotions, somatic practices help rebuild awareness and presence in your body.
Why I am Passionate About Somatic Therapy
Having grown up as a dancer, I’ve always been drawn to practices that help us feel more at home in our bodies. Movement taught me the power of embodiment or the ability to be present, grounded, and fully connected to myself. So when I discovered somatic therapy, it felt like a natural extension of what I had already come to understand: our bodies hold our experiences and our emotions.
Somatic therapy invites us to slow down, listen, and reconnect with what our bodies are trying to tell us. In doing so, we begin to disrupt the patterns our society has imposed such as expectations around productivity, resilience, and even the ways we express (or suppress) our emotions. This work goes beyond the individual; it acknowledges how race, culture, gender, and ability shape our relationship with our bodies and influence how we move through the world.
For me, somatics is about reclaiming presence, healing by slowing down, and acknowledging the wisdom our bodies have carried through generations.
How My Practice Integrates Somatic Therapy
In my work, I specialize in helping trauma survivors and anxious perfectionists feel more present, safe, and connected—both to themselves and their relationships. My somatic approach includes nervous system regulation, grounding techniques, and body awareness exercises that allow you to process emotions safely and build deeper self-trust.
Healing isn’t just about changing thoughts—it’s about feeling safe in your own skin. If you’re ready to reconnect with yourself in a way that feels empowering, healing, and lasting, let’s connect.
